The Original Rangoon Company Commemorates 10-year Anniversary with Gift to South Shore Habitat for Humanity
Boston, Mass., January 30, 2007 - The Original Rangoon Company today announced that over the past year the Company has donated $37,700 to the South Shore Habitat for Humanity, in honor of the Company's 10-year anniversary. The Original Rangoon Company was founded in 1996 by husband and wife team Gregory and Jeanette Bukuras. Since its inception, the Company has grown from a two-person operation headquartered out of the Bukuras's home to become the largest supplier of Crab Rangoons and Scallops Wrapped in Bacon in the United States.
"To commemorate The Original Rangoon Company's ten year anniversary, we wanted to do something special to recognize the community that our company has grown up in," said Gregory Bukuras, founder and CEO of The Original Rangoon Company. "Since The Original Rangoon Company began as a home-based business, we chose to make a donation to an organization that provides homes to people in our community."
The South Shore Habitat for Humanity is a local chapter of a worldwide organization that builds houses for deserving people, simultaneously providing a roof over their heads and opportunities beyond the four walls that surround them. The Original Rangoon Company's financial contribution will be used to assist in the building of new houses, helping to eliminate poverty housing and hopelessness, and giving South Shore residents a place to call home.
"South Shore Habitat for Humanity relies on the generosity of local organizations including The Original Rangoon Company to fund our organization," said Mark O'Reilly, executive director of South Shore Habitat for Humanity. "The generous contributions from The Original Rangoon Company help make local families' dreams of owning their own homes become a reality."
The Original Rangoon Company has consistently made giving back to their community a priority. In August 2002, The Original Rangoon Company opened their own USDA inspected plant in Needham, Mass., and in September 2006 opened a second plant in Framingham, Mass. In the age of sending manufacturing jobs overseas, The Original Rangoon Company has made a commitment to growing their company in the United States and providing jobs in their community, and now employs more than 200 Massachusetts residents.
